UPCOMING FEATURE: CHRIS FORSBERG’S DATSUN X SUPERSTREET

If there’s one feature we’re really looking forward to in 2017, it has to be Chris Forsberg’s Datsun in Superstreet magazine!

Chris’s build bucks the trend in that it houses an RB25 – rather than it’s revered bigger brother the RB26 –  but with around 500 horses on the Dyno, it’s hardly a compromise.

We can’t wait to see the full feature!

VIDEO: MX-5/MIATA AT THE ‘RING

capture

Looking at one in Mazda’s showroom, the MX-5/MIATA comes across as small and cute, but I.L. Motorsport’s demo NC couldn’t be further from that! (Just look at their little roadster tearing up the Nurburgring!)

You see, there’s a reason why the MX-5/MIATA is the best selling roadster of all time. Mazda’s ethos for the little drop-top – focusing on total balance rather than absolute power – is what makes this roadster so special and such a joy to drive. It’s, lightweight, nimble, agile; call it the ‘refined athlete’ if you will. And much like an athlete on the track, the MX-5/MIATA can certainly hold it’s own against bigger, more powerful rivals.

Leaving the ‘power v handling’ debate aside, I think we can all agree that the stock exhaust (see above) is the clear ‘Achilles heel’ of the speedy roadster.

The stock system has 2 major ‘bottle necks’, one on the header and one just after. Removing these alone makes a huge difference as it dramatically reduces turbulence and back pressure caused by the OEM system (see above).

Combined with the straight pipe and muffler, you’re looking at vastly improved exhaust flow as well as a weight saving of more than 35lbs!

NEW RELEASE: VALVE SPRINGS for VR38 R35 GT-R

20161130_12Combining multiple spring rates into one valve spring dramatically increases it’s natural frequency. This improves the spring’s harmonic resistance which also helps reduce the chance of spring surge.

Standard oil tempered chrome silicon wire is widely considered to be the best material for manufacturing springs. However, these valve springs are made using an enhanced version of the material. Paired with our highly optimized valve spring design, these springs offer increased maximum rpm as well as improved resistance to fatigue and valve ‘jump’/’bounce’.

20161130_18
‘The ‘Shot Peening’ process involves the spring’s surface being ‘shot’ with countless steel pellets/particles. This forms a layer of residual stress on the surface which improves the spring’s resistance to fatigue.

20161130_20
‘Hot Setting’ is when the spring shape/form is set in high temperatures using a far greater load than intended. In doing so, the spring is able to maintain and consistantly deliver a high level of performance over a long period of time.

20161130_22
20161130_24Nitriding is used to further harden the surface of these valve springs. The process invloves the springs being treated with nitrogen which, once absorbed, causes the spring’s surface to compress and harden. This process was sepcifically employed to reduce spring fatigue when using high lift camshafts. The graph (left) shows the failure threshold of common valve springs compared to our own Nitiride treated version made using enhanced Oil Tempered Chrome Silicon Wire. Our test results showed a 50% increase in fatigue resistance making them compatible with high rpm applications.

20161130_29
20161130_31Oval wire valve springs feature greater compression than regular valve springs, allowing them to work with a wider range of ‘lift’ settings. This makes them compatible with both stock AND aftermarket high lift camshafts. (VR38/VQ35/KA24/4G63/4B11/G4KF)

Using highly durable oval wire allows the valve springs to compress even further whilst still retaining sufficient force. Compatible with many high lift camshafts, these springs provide reliable performance even under load at higher RPMs.
